southpiercer typ201 high speed locomotive concept

Piercing the south at
lightning speeds.

The Southpiercer Typ201, in conjunction with the upgraded Manila-Bicol Line, constitutes a proposed high-speed train initiative put forth to the Philippine Department of Transportation and Philippine National Railways as part of the Build Build Build Project under the administration in 2016. Should this concept come to fruition, it would enable travel from Metro Manila to the Bicol Province in a matter of minutes, significantly reducing the travel time.

rationale

Carefully stitched for the new generation

The dream has always been to go further.

Tailored to the requirements of the Filipino populace, the Southpiercer was meticulously crafted. Its inception revolved around the notion of a high-speed bullet train designated for deployment on the PNR Manila-Bicol Line. Drawing inspiration from the accomplishments of renowned bullet trains like France's TGV and Japan's Shinkansen, the design took into deep account the precise anticipations set forth by the Philippine government.

revamped manila-bicol line

Get the most out of two hours.

Future is when you traverse Manila to Albay in two hours. On land.

Covering a distance of 468 kilometers, the envisioned Manila-Bicol Line, facilitated by the implementation of the Southpiercer Type 201, would provide the remarkable capability for travelers to journey from Blumentritt in Manila to Legaspi in Albay, spanning the entire route in a mere two-hour duration, with 33 stations dotting the way.

Leveraging the Southpiercer's peak operational velocity of 320kph and incorporating 10 strategically positioned high-speed segments, there is potential for the train to attain speeds of up to 300kph under the most optimal conditions.

The creative minds behind the Southpiercer found inspiration in the sleek beak of the Scott's Oriole bird while shaping its design. Beyond its undeniable style, this beak profile is a popular choice among global bullet trains, celebrated for both its streamlined efficiency and aerodynamic prowess. By adding a touch of flair, the designers skillfully merged the attributes of this avian influence with the dynamic form of fighter jets, crafting a vision of perfection for PNR's finest in the world of transportation.

One thousand four-hundred and forty. That much.

With a capacity matching the Shinkansen and TGV at 90 passengers per carriage, the Southpiercer's 16-car configuration accommodates up to 1,440 passengers. Inspired by jet fighters, its pointed nose and wide cheeks enhance downforce for increased rail-wheel grip, while the design's varying carriage lengths, including a 12-meter nose carriage and 15-meter subsequent carriages, optimize cornering performance.

styling

Made to be elegant at 300kph

Crafted to exude elegance even at high speeds, the Southpiercer's styling is a testament to the harmonious blend of form and function.
